What is Faith & Flow Yoga?

Sherrell is the creator of MindBody FAITH.  An approach to wellness that bridges the gap between science and faith while exploring holistic tools and techniques for health and healing.  One of those tools is  Faith & Flow Yoga®.  A yoga practice that teaches people how to use their faith, body, and breath to raise their level of consciousness, reconnect with God, and themselves on a deeper mental, spiritual, and physical level. She also created Sisters Who Meditate® as an international movement designed to educate and support women who want to cultivate a spiritual practice and discipline utilizing Christian meditation and prayer to deepen their relationship with God.

The heart of Faith & Flow yoga is worship on the mat. This program allows everyone, no matter where you are on your physical or spiritual journey, to progress and move at your own pace using the guiding principles of Surrender, Transformation and Discipline as building blocks for your faith.

Coming to Christ requires surrender and the same is true with the body that God designed for us. Through the breath we are able to release and let go because the breath of "God's spirit" flows through us. Once we surrender- body, soul, and spirit, then transformation may begin. We must renew our thoughts to the Word of God, stop the negative self-talk and allow the truth to affect our actions and our bodies. For example, many people that are new to yoga want to do "pretzel" poses right from the start or a new babe in Christ wants to find their life purpose without going through the process.

The transformation process is integral to our physical and spiritual growth and development. Transformation is constant, but once the mind and body are transformed we must continuously renew our mind and body and that takes discipline. When life happens we must hold onto our faith and persevere. Discipline teaches us to be intentional in renewing our mind and body so we are prepared to handle the physical and spiritual challenges that life brings. Ultimately, there is great peace in cultivating an environment that allows physical and spiritual development to flow together.

There are seasons in life where we need more surrender, more transformation, or more discipline. Faith & Flow Yoga allows for shifting those needs in your body and your life. Faith & Flow Yoga allows everyone to connect with Christ and do the inner or soul work based on their season in life.

Guiding Principles for Faith & Flow Yoga

SURRENDER - A flow that incorporates various seated, standing, and reclined folds and postures designed to allow the mind and body the time and space to let go and to surrender. Coming to Christ requires active surrender and the same applies to the physical body that He designed for us. Surrender lays the foundation for your yoga practice and for your life. This flow may be practiced by those who have trouble sleeping, relaxing or experiencing back pain.

TRANSFORMATION - A flow that incorporates various twists, balancing and strengthening postures designed to challenge the mind and body to gradually develop new thoughts, patterns, and movement for abundant living. This flow may be practiced by those who have trouble with stiffness in the joints, limited range of motion, poor posture, or lack of body awareness.

DISCIPLINE - A flow that incorporates elements from the entire program designed to renew the mind and body through the Word of God and through familiar and more challenging strength and endurance postures. This flow is designed to support the "new" transformed person inside and out through a renewed mind and firm faith even when faced with spiritual and physical challenges.  This active flow may be practiced by those who have trouble with mental focus, imbalances in the body, or diminished upper and lower body strength.
